RX 32-bit MCU Family – The Core Difference in Your Design

These next generation microcontrollers based on the revolutionary RX CPU core enable a new class of MCUs blending the best traits of RISC and CISC MCU architectures while adding DSP and floating point math capability.

This hybrid Digital Signal Controller approach meets the demands of today’s embedded applications requiring high performance yet very low power consumption; the smallest possible code and data size; the lowest cost; and the need for digital signal processing.

Drawing from a rich heritage of existing CPU cores from the world’s #1 MCU supplier, the RX CPU core design leads the industry for performance and capability in embedded MCUs. There are two compatible RX series to best match your needs starting with RX600 for extreme performance and connectivity, followed by RX200 for ultra-low power applications. Tools, firmware libraries, and documentation make it easy to migrate to RX from any other MCU platform, or to start a new RX design.

RX600 MCU Series – Performance without Sacrifice

Welcome to a world of extreme embedded control, processing, and connectivity … without penalty. The RX600 Series is a blend of the RX CPU core at 1.65 Dhrystone MIPS per MHz, a 32-bit Floating Point Unit and 32-bit Multiply-Accumulate unit for DSP, a 5-clock interrupt response, and Ethernet, USB, CAN on a 90 nanometer Flash process with no-wait memory all the way up to 100MHz.

The CPU is unleashed delivering 165 DMIPS with no waits, no stalls, no memory acceleration required, just pure predictable performance. Special attention to low power enables the RX600 to consume just 500uA/MHz with all peripherals on, and some RX600 devices reach under 1 uA in deep standby mode.

Code development is supported by your choice of three Integrated Development Environments: Renesas HEW, IAR EWRX, and free GNU/Eclipse by KPIT. Middleware and RTOS is supplied by a wide network of top-tier partners, and well as free open source support from Renesas and others. Debugging for all RX devices is supported by several popular JTAG-based on-chip emulation interfaces, plus options are available for high-speed tracing as well as full in-circuit hardware emulation.

Three product groups are available in the RX600 series covering a wide range of embedded control applications with high speed connectivity, digital signal processing, motor and inverter control, and human-interface with color TFT-LCD.
